Hadra

The collective dhikr session: literally 'the presence', the gathering where the community invokes together.

Hadra means ‘the presence’. The name says it all: the collective dhikr session is the one where the community gathers to be together in the divine presence, not merely to recite. In the usage of the paths of the Maghreb and Egypt, ‘the hadra’ denotes the gathering itself.

The session follows a set course: a time of recollection, the rhythmic collective invocation that rises and subsides, the reading of a Qur’anic passage or a teaching, the final prayer. In the Qadiriya Boutchichiya path, the singing of a qasida and the simple sharing that follows are often added. The muqaddem leads and sees that intensity remains a service, not an intoxication.

In France, the weekly sessions are open: one can come and listen before committing. See the full unfolding of the dhikr session, the town pages and the calendar.
