Sayings of Abu Madyan Shu'ayb: Sufi quotations
Abu Madyan Shu’ayb (d. 1198), of Tlemcen, “the al-Ghazali of the Maghreb”, master of Ibn ’Arabi and source of all the paths of the Maghreb; to be distinguished from Sidi Abu Madyan al-Qadiri (1873-1957), the master of Sidi Hamza.
Sidi Abu Madyan: the sweetness of His presence through the dhikr
If Allah wishes to favour His servant, He lets him know the sweetness of His presence through the dhikr and helps him express his gratitude towards Him… He who finds his satisfaction in the company of people shuns the company of God.
Abu Madyan
Say: Allah… Everything other than God, once you have well understood it, is nothingness in detail and as a whole. Know this well: without Him, the whole of creation, yourself included, melts away, vanishes.
